Kevin Bacon to helm Showtime drama about John Wilkes Booth

October 6, 2008 by Jillian Cohan

It’s still in the early stages, but Variety reports that Kevin Bacon is working on a series for Showtime that takes us through the life, times and relationships of John Wilkes Booth, the guy who ultimately assassinated President Lincoln.

The show, called The Booths, begins in the years before Lincoln was shot and centers on the three Booth brothers: Edwin, Junius Brutus Jr. and John Wilkes. They, like their parents, were actors in the 1800s. That meant lots of family drama, which will serve the series well.

Bacon will be The Booths’ executive producer; no writer has been signed yet.

As an actor, Bacon’s credits are legion, having inspired the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game. He also has directed and produced the film Loverboy and episodes of TNT’s The Closer, both starring his wife, Kyra Sedgwick. Here, Bacon talks about parlaying the Six Degrees game into a force for good:

    Edwin Booth.
