Stan Lee Portrait Session And Book Signing At Book Soup

Iconic comic book creator Stan Lee is working on a series about a gay superhero for Showtime, SFUniverse tells us.  The show, called Hero, is adapted from the Perry Moore book by the same name, Variety reports. It’ll feature a young man who’s gaining superpowers at the same time that he’s coming to terms with his homosexuality.

The story line may be no surprise to the gay community, which has seen parallels between superheroes’ need to hide their abilities from the world and for some gay and lesbian people to closet their sexuality.

Hero is one of a handful of new series in development at Showtime (stay tuned for updates on a few others we’ve heard about). With The L Word hitting its final season and Queer as Folk but a distant memory to many Showtime Fans, the time is ripe to bring a new GLBT-friendly show to the network.

Lee’s involvement as executive producer can only help, what with his recent track record on Iron Man and his Captain America film soon to kick off the Avengers series.
