Dexter star, creators dish about crazy fans and tell how they shield child actors from the show’s gruesome content

Imagine your kid is a child actor who wants to read for a part on a show that a friend of yours produces.
Good plan, right?
Not so much — if the show is Dexter and the role is the young version of Dexter’s brother, who gets locked in a storage container and sits for hours in a pool of blood.
Working with kids on a set that regularly features dead and dismembered bodies can be dicey. Hear more about how Dexter’s creators protect the show’s young actors from its violent content and hear about Jennifer Carpenter’s bizzaro fan encounter in this video from the Paley Center on Media:

If I lived out west, I’d probably be one of those crazy fans. Love DEXTER and am waiting patiently for the next season.
I imagine that it would be difficult to cast any child’s part for this series without a thorough explanation of “pretend blood” and such.
When is season three coming out in DVD? Any way at all of seeing Jimmy again next time….flashbacks or ANYTHING?
