Weeds’ Mary-Louise Parker says her comments about nude scene were misconstrued

June 7, 2009 by Jillian Cohan

Weeds Mary-Louise Parker at the 6119 Maurice and Ilana Sunderland Fashion Line Show September 4 2008If all that brouhaha about Mary-Louise Parker not wanting to do the infamous bathtub scene on Weeds last season seemed like much ado about nothing, that’s because it was.

Parker recently told TVGuide.com that the interview with More magazine implied she was bitter over having to do the nude scene, when what she meant was that she and the director had different views of the editing needed for the scene.

“They made it sound like I was like, ‘They made me take my clothes off and chained me to the bathtub,’” MLP said. The Season 4 finale stripped Nancy naked literally and symbolically as she grappled with the mess she’d made of her family’s life by getting in bed with a Mexican drug lord.

Parker said it wasn’t the nudity that bothered her, but the way the scene kept cutting back to her in the tub, which she found distracting.

“I mean, if you know me, it’s like, someone sneezes and I take my clothes off,” she said. “I’m naked in Esquire in August. I was naked on the set the other day. I’m always naked.”

Weeds fifth season premieres June 8 (tomorrow, folks!!) at 10 p.m. Eastern on Showtime.
