June 10, 2009 by Jillian Cohan

NURSE JACKIEThose Showtime execs sure know a good thing when they see it. After Nurse Jackie debuted to record-breaking numbers on Monday, the network quickly signed Edie Falco and co. for a second season.

More than a million viewers watched the 10:30 premiere episode and another 350,000 people watched the 11:30 encore, making it the biggest premiere for an original Showtime series since 2004, the LA Times notes.

Production on a second 12-episode season is expected to start this summer in New York.

Season 2 would premiere in 2010.
