TV Guide’s pick for best actress Emmy: Weeds’ Mary-Louise Parker!
September 15, 2009 by Jillian Cohan
You love her; I love her. Now TVGuide.com loves her, too! The site named Weeds star Mary-Louise Parker, shown here at last year’s Emmys, as its top pick for who should win the Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy.

The TVGuide.com staff concedes that 30 Rock’s Tina Fey probably will win the category, given her past success. But they say MLP deserves the award for taking Nancy Botwin’s character to new depths last season. She did an excellent job exploring Nancy’s “tenuous grip on reality as the show moved from the ‘burbs to the border,” the site said.
We agree. Parker has always played Nancy with a dazed, Valium-like attitude toward her troubles (just float above it all and things will work out, right?). But being a new mom shook Mrs. Botwin into realizing the impact her criminal activities have had on her growing sons. MLP played Nancy last season with just as much detachment as usual, but infused her performance with so much more vulnerability. Bravo!
