Future plans for a post-Dexter Julie Benz
December 22, 2009 by Jillian Cohan
Since her work on Dexter ended with the Season 4 finale, Julie Benz is in the market for a new job. She took her exit from the series with grace, but Benz recently told The New York Post’s PopWrap blog that she’s sad to leave such a strong cast and crew. Here’s what she’s up to now:
Benz recently filmed a rom-com called Uncorked that airs on the Hallmark Channel on March 6.
“It’s a fun, nice, light, easy romantic comedy,” she told PopWrap.
The film pairs Benz with Men in Trees hottie Scott Elrod. He plays a handsome widower/winemaker who helps her work-obsessed character recover from losing her job as an executive. While working at his parents vineyard, she falls for him … and then has to choose between him and her career when another job offer comes up.
Benz also managed to squeeze in another movie around her Dexter filming schedule. The indie Answers to Nothing stars Dane Cook and should be out next year, Benz said. The film co-stars Barbara Hershey and Lost’s Elizabeth Mitchell, who play’s Cook’s baby-crazed wife. The drama uses the case of a missing girl to ponder the ways that lost souls in LA search for meaning and affect each other in ways they don’t always see.
With those projects under her belt, Benz is also looking for small-screen work. “I love working in television and I hope to find another home very soon,” she told PopWrap.
