Toni Collette takes a break from United States of Tara to spend some girl time with her daughter
February 6, 2010 by Jillian Cohan
It’s been a busy winter for Toni Collette. She’s filmed the new season of United States of Tara, which includes at least one new alter, and she won a Golden Globe award for her performance as Tara Gregson in Season 1 (The most often quoted part of her acceptance speech went something like this: “This is a real pleasure. The last time I came here 15 years ago, I was on the loo and missed my whole category.”)
It’s no wonder that after all that attention, the Australia native wanted to put the Hollywood hubbub behind her for a bit.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers and John Travolta on the red carpet at the From Paris With Love premiere
February 5, 2010 by Jillian Cohan
Jonathan Rhys Meyers and John Travolta seemed the best of pals when they walked the red carpet this week at the New York premiere of their new thriller, From Paris With Love.
According to OK! magazine, JRM said of his co-star:
“He’s an incredibly nice guy. Sometimes you’re shocked. I find the more successful –- the bigger stars that I work with, the nicer they are.”
Travolta was similarly enamored of the Tudors star.
““He’s the best,” he said of Jonny Boy. “He’s so talented and smart.”
The guys brought along their best gals, too.
Travolta’s wife, actress Kelly Preston, dished about some of the …read more
Weeds Mary-Louise Parker joins Guy Pearce for new film
February 4, 2010 by Jillian Cohan
Weeds star Mary-Louise Parker has signed on for The Well, a psychological drama co-starring Guy Pearce and produced by Philip Seymour Hoffman is producing.
Empire Online reports that the project was announced at the Sundance film fest and will feature Parker and Pearce as a wealthy New York couple “whose obsessive pursuit of salvation ultimately leads to destruction.” Aside from that tease, details on the film are scarce.
The movie still has to line up a financier, but with three A-list names attached we’re guessing it’ll move forward fairly quickly.
Parker, shown here running errands in NYC this fall, had other news …read more
Happy birthday, Michael C. Hall!
February 1, 2010 by Jillian Cohan
It’s been quite a year for Dexter star Michael C. Hall.
To recap:
Just one month before his 38th birthday, he married co-star Jennifer Carpenter.
Then, he took his character to new levels on Season 4 of Dexter, raising his game to work with guest star John Lithgow.
He also made a splash on the big screen opposite Gerard Butler, all before being diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma.
The cancer treatment didn’t slow him down much, though, with Hall winning two major Hollywood honors — a Golden Globe and a SAG Award.
Through it all, he navigated the media attention surrounding his illness with tact and grace.

Jennifer Beals shines in The Book of Eli
January 26, 2010 by Jillian Cohan
After six seasons on The L Word, Jennifer Beals‘ choices for new projects include a holiday comedy, a French film, and a little movie called The Book of Eli, in which she stars opposite Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman.
“It’s a story that takes you through action and violence and dread to get to what is sweet and precious in the heart, which is hope,” Beals told WWD.
In the film, set 30 years after a horrific war has reduced Earth to a ruthless, violent wasteland, she plays Claudia, a blind woman who is married to Oldman’s character and helps Washington’s character …read more
SAG red carpet: Julie Bowen, Jane Lynch, Gabourey Sidibe
January 24, 2010 by Jillian Cohan
Long after they’ve left Showtime series — and sometimes before they’ve signed on officially — certain Showtime stars leave an impression with us. That’s certainly true of Glee’s Jane Lynch (formerly of The L Word), Modern Family’s Julie Bowen (the MILF who seduced Silas on Season 4 of Weeds) and of newcomer Gabourey Sidibe, the Precious star who is rumored to have signed on for the new Showtime series The Big C.
All three ladies made an impression at last night’s SAG Awards. Check out their red-carpet looks:

SAG red carpet: Edie Falco
January 24, 2010 by Jillian Cohan
Nurse Jackie star Edie Falco got dinged by some fashion observers for her choice of this red Bottega Venetta gown for the SAG Awards (one commentator compared her outfit to a shower curtain).
The grecian look wows on the runway but maybe doesn’t flatter as well on the red carpet.

As a SAG nominee and presenter, though, Falco had to carry it off. We think she did, in part because of her comic timing. I mean who else can get away with an opening riff like this?:
“I grew up in Hawaii in a single-parent household. I struggled to succeed in a …read more
SAG red carpet: Julie Benz
January 24, 2010 by Jillian Cohan
Fashionistas may have noticed that purple hues showed up a lot at Saturday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards and Dexter’s Julie Benz showcased the trend nicely.
Hours before the awards ceremony, she gushed about her “glam swat team” coming over to whip her into red carpet shape. Their efforts paid off with this glowy, gauzy look:
Benz, whose character was killed off in the Dexter Season 4 finale, next appears on Desperate Housewives.

SAG red carpet: Toni Collette
January 24, 2010 by Jillian Cohan
She may not have triumphed at the SAG awards like she did at the Golden Globes, but Toni Collette hit it out of the park for fashion at her second consecutive awards ceremony this month.
A SAG nominee for best comedic actress, the United States of Tara star looked every inch the Hollywood glamour queen in a beaded strapless Rafael Cennano gown with chandelier earrings to match the turquoise accents on the bodice. Total fashion win!

SAG award goes to Dexter’s Michael C. Hall
January 24, 2010 by Jillian Cohan
Congrats, Michael C. Hall! After four amazing seasons as the title character on Dexter, it seems that is award season belongs to you!
Along with a Golden Globe win last weekend, you scored a Screen Actors Guild Award this weekend — and proved yet again how strong you and wife Jennifer Carpenter have been in the face of your cancer diagnosis and treatment.
After his win, Hall told reporters that he’s had a groundswell of support from friends old and new after going public with the news that he has Hodgkins Lymphoma.
He added that, while he had some inkling that Dexter would …read more
