Californication’s David Duchovny puts family first

July 4, 2009 by Jillian Cohan

Californication star David Duchovny and Tea Leoni have been spotted together more often this summer, including at Knicks games and on family outings like a trip to Malibu Beach, where they were recently photographed together. The couple, who separated after Duchovny went into rehab for sex addiction in October, have been amicable through the split.

“Their first priority through everything was staying close for their kids and making life as great as it can be for them,” a source told People. “They’ll always be a family.”

The way Duchovny’s handling the separation seems much more mature than how Hank Moody deals with his ex on Californication, but comments DD made recently seem to draw parallels between the actor and his character:

“There’s this heart in the show that he’s truly in love with this one woman and that he’s a good parent, in a really horrible way. These are paradoxes that I thought were mature,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “This was more adult, more articulate, less of a man-boy and more of a man. Comedy for grown-ups, starring a grown-up.”

You’ll find more photos of Leoni, Duchovny and their kids at the beach after the jump.

Candid photos: David Duchovny plays touch football while filming Californication

May 26, 2009 by Jillian Cohan

I’ve never thought of David Duchovny as the athletic type, in spite of the veganism and the occasional paparazzo shot of him running through Central Park and whatnot, but DD sure looks like he’s enjoying this game of touch football while he films Californication on Venice Beach.

Californication’s new season returns this fall with awesome guest stars including Gossip Girl cutie Ed Westwick, former teen heartthrob Rick Springfield and the formidable Kathleen Turner.

It’s hard to tell who Duchovny’s football buddy is in these pics, snapped on Wednesday, but maybe you, dear reader, can figure it out. More photos are after the jump, including one with a better shot of the gentleman’s face.

Madeline Zima busy with movies and red carpet photo ops while on break from Californication

May 21, 2009 by Jillian Cohan

Californication actress Madeline Zima is keeping busy during the show’s haitus — just about as busy as her character, Mia Lewis, will on her book tour in Season 3. Zima has several film projects completed, including a few that feature her as part of an A-list cast. She’s also making herself known on the party circuit in LA.

This weekend Madeline was photographed on the red carpet at the Fashion for Life fundraiser at the California Market Center, where she wore an orange strapless dress and fab strappy sandals.

Last Thursday found Zima at the T-Mobile Sidekick LX Launch Party held at Paramount Studios, where she hob knobbed with the likes of Pete Wentz (who made a cameo on Californication last season) along with wife Ashlee Simpson, Paris Hilton, Lauren Conrad, Adrian Grenier and Anna Faris, among other stars.

On May 4, Madeline attended the Nylon and MySpace Young Hollywood party at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, dolled up in her best faux-flower headband.

As for her professional work, Zima joins Dominique Swain and Jeremy London in the already completed film Trance, which IMdb synopsizes as such: “sexy girls at a rave turn into blood thirsty killers after taking a mysterious new drug.”

My Own Love Song, a feel-good flick due this fall, features Madeline and Renée Zellweger, along with Forest Whitaker and Nick Nolte, in the story of a wheelchair-bound singer and her best friend who take a roadtrip to Memphis.

In Happy Together, starring Dermot Mulroney and Hope Davis, Zima is part of an up-and-coming supporting cast that includes Gabrielle Anwar and rapper Bow Wow. The film is about a mother’s memory loss and how it gives her dysfunctional family a second chance at happiness.

Chuck Bass meets Hank Moody?

May 1, 2009 by Jillian Cohan

Showtime just announced that Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick, he of the pouty pout and the preptastic wardrobe, will guest star on Season 3 of Californication.

In the new season Hank Moody (David Duchovny) will land a teaching gig at an LA college, giving him all kinds of reasons to run into comely young guest stars.

Westwick, or Chuck Bass as he’s known on GG, will play a student named Balt who’s into vampire stories, EW reports. Eva Amurri from Saved! will play another student, and Embeth Davidtz from In Treatment will appear on 10 episodes as the wife of the dean who tangles with Hank (The OC’s Peter Gallagher plays the dean).

Other Season 3 special guests will include Rick Springfield playing … Rick Springfield. The “Jessie’s Girl” rocker will play himself in four episodes, EW says, but the fictional Rick may have fallen on hard times and resorted to waiting tables.

More photos of Westwick signing autographs after leaving a BBC Radio 1 appearance in London last week, are after the jump.

Californication actress could leave Showtime for CBS sitcom

April 28, 2009 by Jillian Cohan

If things go Pamela Adlon’s way, Hank and Charlie won’t have Marcy Runkle to kick around much longer on Californication.

Adlon has been cast opposite Adam Carolla in the pilot of a CBS family comedy called Ace in the Hole, The Hollywood Reporter says.

If the pilot gets picked up Adlon will leave Californication, where she’s played the long-suffering (and hilariously coke-addicted) wife of Evan Handler’s literary agent, Charlie, for three seasons.

In the CBS project she’ll play the long-suffering wife of Carolla’s character, a father of two who works as a driving instructor. Her character will be a nurse.

Adlon’s other credits include providing the voice of Bobby Hill on King of the Hill since 1997, appearing on Boston Legal and guest starring on Monk.

She also played Kim, the wife of Louis CK’s slacker husband character on Lucky Louie, the raunchy — and short-lived — experimental sitcom on HBO.

Photos from the set: David Duchovny and Evan Handler film Californication

April 18, 2009 by Jillian Cohan

We’ve got more behind-the-scenes pics for you today, Showtime fans. Check out David Duchovny and Evan Handler on set for Season 3 of Californication in Beverly Hills.

David Duchovny films his show Californication

DD had a tough time of it during Season 2, separating from Tea Leoni, his wife of 11 years, and seeking treatment for sex addiction. The once-estranged couple have been spotted together a few times since. Now they say they’ve reconciled, and they got tattooed wedding bands to prove it.

Hank Moody’s not as lucky in love as his real-life counterpart, though. Season 3 will feature all our fave regular cast members, but we’ll see less of Natascha McElhone’s Karen, who has taken a job in NYC.

The LA cast will be joined by guest stars Kathleen Turner as a cougar who tries to sink her claws into Charlie, Peter Gallagher as Hank’s workplace nemesis, and Diane Farr as his grad student assistant/love interest. Filming continues this spring, with Season 3 set to drop in the fall. Till then, there are more photos after the jump.

When Californication returns for Season 3, David Duchovny will have a few new A-listers to pal around with on set,  TV Guide reports.

Film and TV veteran Kathleen Turner will join the show for 10 episodes as the new boss at Charlie’s talent agency and pursue him sexually. Peter Gallagher of The OC will guest for eight episodes as the dean of students at the college where Hank takes a teaching gig to support himself and Becca. Hank and the dean will clash over Hank’s unconventional ways.

Also at the university, Diane Farr from Numbers will play a teacher’s assistant who gets her freak on with Hank a few times.

Californication actress says her ‘good girl’ looks and ‘kinky’ roles make for interesting tension

February 24, 2009 by Jillian Cohan

From her first appearance as Daisy, the angel-faced porn actress on Season 2 of Californication, Carla Gallo added some spunk and a heavy dose of potty humor to the show, more than holding her own with male co-stars David Duchovny and Evan Handler.

It’s not the only time the Ivy league educated actress has played a raunchy role. Gallo is one of the regular players in Judd Apatow’s merry troupe, working with him on the series Undeclared and later turning up as “Toe-Sucking Girl” in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, “Period Blood Girl” in Superbad, and “Gag Me Girl” in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. She also played a stripper on the HBO series Carnivale.

“Here I am, having gone from stripper to porn—porn actress—and [my friends] are like ‘Why you?’…. I’m not that girl. I’m the girl next door, not the sex symbol,” Gallo said in a recent interview with the Harvard Crimson.

She went on to say her good-girl looks and wholesome on-screen personality set up an interesting tension between viewers’ expectations of her characters and the reality.

As for whether she’ll be back for Season 3, Gallo isn’t sure. She ended up with the guy in the Season 2 finale, but she says “I don’t know how long the pornstar who breaks up a marriage gets to stay in the picture. I’m not sure it will be a happily ever after.”
