Parrish takes a break from his scruffy surfer dude persona on the Showtime series to play Luke, one of the couple’s grown children who is left to grapple with the messiness that results after Streep and Baldwin’s characters relapse on their divorce.

The film, directed by Nancy Meyers, has raised critical buzz already, but Parrish said for him the joy of It’s Complicated was in working with such an awesome ensemble.

Streep was “incredibly maternal” and open to letting the young actor watch her technique, Parrish said, while Baldwin took some risks in the film that paid off. “It’s a great chance to see him in a place that’s a little bit more vulnerable,” Parrish said. “… He gets to become the one looking for something … and he totally does it with charm and with class.”

The 22-year-old actor was featured in a photo spread in People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” issue this week, earning him the distinction of being one of the “110 of the hottest guys on the planet.” (Nurse Jackie fans will be happy to note that Peter Facinelli also got a shout-out in the issue, as “hottest dad.”)

In Parrish’s photo feature, set on the Las Vegas strip, he shared his craziest memory from a night in Vegas and explained why he gets high on life when he’s there:

Wildest Night in Vegas: I was with my parents for my 21st birthday. I went to a couple of clubs and walked past them on the way to my room at 4:30 a.m. They were still gambling.

The Big O: I like the oxygen they pump into Vegas hotels. You feel a little loopy — and revitalized. I fell like I’m doing a bad drug, then I realize it’s a basic need.

While the People piece listed the young star is “single,” playing the field might be more accurate. He showed up this week at the GQ Men of the Year Party at Chateau Marmont with actress Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th, Shark, Mr. Brooks).

GQ named Parrish a big man off campus this summer, and indeed, his clean-cut good look have attracted plenty of attention in young Hollywood. While Parrish claims to love older women, he’s also recently been spotted with Amanda “A.J.” Michalka of 78Violet, whose acting credits include Six Feet Under and The Lovely Bones.

In a video taken during the People photo shoot, Parrish revealed that sexy to him means a girl who looks hot without trying: If she can look great in PJs with her hair pulled back, he’s happy. And only he can tell whether his latest love interests make the grade…

• The inspiration for the series came from a real pot-peddling mom Kohan knew growing up.
• Kohan thinks pot should be legalized (not that we’re shocked by that revelation).
• We only saw Nancy with a big belly in a few episodes this season because Mary-Louise Parker didn’t want to be pregnant the whole season.
• Kohan loves writing for Conrad, and she’s not opposed to bringing his character back at some point.
• The idea for the University of Andy webisodes grew out of the masturbation lessons that Andy gave Shane in Season 2.
• After Kohan learned that there are more medical marijuana dispensaries than there are Starbucks, she decided she need to have an herbal retail outlet on Weeds.
• The reason the “Little Boxes” theme song disappeared after Season 3: The Botwins don’t live in a little box anymore. No more Agrestic means no more theme song.
• When asked how many more seasons the show will run, Kohan was vague. “I try not to make long-term plans, she said.”

GQ recently caught up with the 21-year-old actor, whom the magazine features in a prep-school themed photoshoot called “Big Man Off Campus.”

In the Q&A, Hunter dishes on the movie he’s filming, what went into his decision to bare his backside in that hot scene with Julie Bowen last season, and why he passed on the Zac Ephron role in High School Musical. Here are a few highlights:

• On working with Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin, who play his parents in an as-yet-untitled romantic comedy from director Nancy Meyers (The Holiday, Father of the Bride): “Meryl’s the easiest person to be with on set or in a scene, very giving and maternal” … but Baldwin was the one who got mac ‘n cheese and pizza delivered to the set when younger cast members craved comfort food.
• On his nude scene last season: He didn’t decide until the morning of the shoot — after he talk to his ‘rents. “It was nice to hear that they were supportive.”
• On the rumor he was offered the main role in HSM: He was one of five finalists. Then he had a chance at a Robin Williams movie. “I thought to myself: fly to Vancouver and meet the director for this Robin Williams movie, or stay and finish the auditions for the Disney Chanel movie? So I didn’t even go to the last audition.”

When he wasn’t busy on Broadway or on film sets, Weeds star Hunter Parrish has been trying to score a music deal with a major label. The fresh-faced actor, who turned 22 this month, hasn’t landed an official offer just yet, JustJared says, but he’s working hard on his music career in his free time. 

That’s not to say that young Hunter has had a ton of time to spare. This year he appears as a bullying basketball player in the Zac Efron/Matthew Perry comedy 17 Again (for which he earned an appreciative write up in Teen Vogue) and headlined Spring Awakening on Broadway, playing the doomed protagonist Melchior. And then there’s Weeds, which has wrapped filming for Season 5. It debuts Sunday, June 8, on Showtime.

Pace yourself, Hunter. You’ve got plenty of time to become an actor/singer/mogul.

After triumphing on the Great White Way, Weeds’ cutie Hunter Parrish (at left, with stand-up comic Mike Birbiglia) will add a few movie credits to his filmography.

Parrish, one of the stars of the Broadway show Spring Awakening, has signed on for Paper Man, a comedy about the friendship between a washed-up writer and a Long Island teenager, The Hollywood Reporter notes. Parrish will play the teen’s boyfriend. The cast includes Jeff Daniels, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds and Lisa Kudrow.

Along with his work as Silas on Weeds, Parrish will also play opposite Zac Efron and Matthew Perry in the movie 17 Again, due in April. (It’s basically Big for those who’re too young to remember when Tom Hanks was known primarily as a comedian).
