Californication’s David Duchovny puts family first
July 4, 2009 by Jillian Cohan
Californication star David Duchovny and Tea Leoni have been spotted together more often this summer, including at Knicks games and on family outings like a trip to Malibu Beach, where they were recently photographed together. The couple, who separated after Duchovny went into rehab for sex addiction in October, have been amicable through the split.
“Their first priority through everything was staying close for their kids and making life as great as it can be for them,” a source told People. “They’ll always be a family.”

The way Duchovny’s handling the separation seems much more mature than how Hank Moody deals with his ex on Californication, but comments DD made recently seem to draw parallels between the actor and his character:
“There’s this heart in the show that he’s truly in love with this one woman and that he’s a good parent, in a really horrible way. These are paradoxes that I thought were mature,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “This was more adult, more articulate, less of a man-boy and more of a man. Comedy for grown-ups, starring a grown-up.”
You’ll find more photos of Leoni, Duchovny and their kids at the beach after the jump.

We’ve finally got great photos from the Golden Globes arrivals and after-parties! Check out the stars of your favorite Showtime series, decked out in ballgowns and black ties galore.
Let’s start with the inestimable Mary-Louise Parker, stunning in a sapphire blue evening dress with tiered draping, a dramatic train and a sparkly silver clutch. She didn’t win best actress in a TV comedy, but she sure worked the red carpet:

Double fault: David Duchovny sues for libel over cheating story
October 23, 2008 by Jillian Cohan
David Duchovny swears that while he may be a philandering artist at work, he’s not one at home. The Californication star this week sued Britain’s Daily Mail for the profile it ran of his tennis pro, Edit Pakay, in which she said the two of them had a very close relationship. When asked if they’d had a full-fledged affair, Pakay said she wouldn’t deny it.
Duchovny recently finished rehab for sex addiction. Soon after, he and wife of 11 years Tea Leoni announced a formal separation. They’d apparently split up months before.
DD’s lawyer is asking for at least $1 million in damages and says Pakay signed a sworn statement that she and the actor were close friends and on-court partners — nothing more. The suit says the British tabloid acted hastily and published the story even though there was doubt as to its truthfulness. E! has the full legal document here.
If the story was indeed false, the Mail may have problems. But if the info is true, and they can prove that in spite of Pakay’s statement, DD’s in a world of hurt. Maybe Californication creator Tom Kapinos should follow his star around after work — he’d find plenty of inspiration for Hank Moody’s future shenanigans.
David Duchovny’s tennis coach — and possible mistress — looks eerily like Tea Leoni
October 20, 2008 by Jillian Cohan
David, David, David. First the revelation that you’re a sex addict. Then the news you split with your wife of 11 years. Now we learn you may — possibly, perhaps — have been schtupping your tennis pro?
Really, for such a smart man you sure are making some bad choices. You may not be saying anything about the state of your marriage or your stint in rehab for sex addiction, but Edit Pakay, the woman who coached you on your tennis game, tells The Mail on Sunday that she “won’t deny” you had an affair.
The 28-year-old Hungarian hottie seems to know you pretty well — praising your intelligence and kindness — but she doesn’t seem to have a sense of whether you’re using her or not. She describes your relationship as a very, very close friendship. Asked if it was an affair, she says “I don’t want to say anything that might hurt David. I am not going to deny it. I don’t know what our relationship means to him.”
She’s smitten, David, and she looks just like your wife, but with darker hair. A psychologist might have something interesting to say on that front. Your publicist, of course, denies that you had a relationship with her. But she sure appears to have strong feelings for you: “People joke about having affairs with their tennis coach and I’m the tennis coach,” she says. “But I don’t want to become the butt of jokes. My feelings for him mean much more than that.”
What’s next, David? Will you take a cue from Hank Moody and dive into debauchery? Or keep your act clean, staying away from booze, sex and all that jazz? Is that even possible, given what a day on the Californication set must be like?
We’re rooting for you, but this string of news is worrisome. After all, we’ve seen you embody middle-aged self destruction for two seasons. You play the role well; almost too well. Please, for the sake of your fans, get it together man!
David Duchovny and Tea Leoni: Splitsville
October 16, 2008 by Jillian Cohan
Californication star David Duchovny, unlike his character on the show, is a swingin’ single. So says People, which today quoted a statement from Duchovny’s wife, Tea Leoni, saying the couple separated months ago. That’s about the time DD went into rehab for sex addiction. He’s all better now, his lawyer said a few weeks ago.
Duchovny and Leoni were spotted together last week at a street festival in NYC, but apparently haven’t been able to patch the holes in their 11-year marriage.
In the statement, the couple, pictured at left in 2005, said they’d “hoped to keep this separation private for the sake of their children.” They have two kids, daughter Madelaine West, 9, and son Kyd, 6.
Emmy update: Mary-Kate Olsen doesn’t make the short list, Elizabeth Perkins, David Duchovny & others do
July 4, 2008 by Jillian Cohan
Thanks to Tom O’Neil over at Gold Derby keeping one step ahead of the TV academy in reporting the Emmy contenders, we’re feeling pretty good about Showtime’s presence in this year’s Emmy race.

Image details: The Cinema Society & Sony Cierge Host The After Party For "The Wackness" served by picapp.com
Mary-Kate Olsen may not have made the Emmy’s Top 10 list for her guest performance on Weeds (boo!) but Mary-Louise Parker’s devil-may-care Nancy put her in contention for best comedic actress. Elizabeth Perkins‘ and Justin Kirk scored spots on the supporting actress/actor lists, even though Kevin Nealon was shut out. Apparently foot porn trumps banjo ditties about bong hits.
Also in the mix:
- David Duchovny for his turn as aptly named Hank Moody on Californication
- Peter O’Toole for his masterful portrayal of the Pope on The Tudors (no love for Jonathan Rhys Meyers or Natalie Dormer, though. They were robbed, I say. Robbed!)
- Michael C. Hall (natch) for his lead role on Dexter, and Keith Carradine for his guest appearance as Agent Lundy on Dexter
- And the series entries we reported earlier: Weeds, Dexter and The Tudors.
Official nominations (about half the number on the short list) will be released from the TV academy July 17.
Showtime eye candy for your viewing pleasure
March 2, 2008 by Jillian Cohan
Over at the b5media ranch, our channel editors (read: my bosses) have been testing this new photo application, PicApp.
Much as I enjoy surfing image-hosting sites for pics of Showtime stars and then wondering if the Copyright Police will come after me if I mistakenly post an unattributed photo, I’m digging this new app. It lets us bring you images legally and gives me more access to red carpet photos than I had before. So, in celebration, I’ve rounded up some good lookin’ images of Showtime’s easy-on-the-eyes stars for your viewing pleasure. You’re welcome.
Henry Cavill, The Tudors
Julie Benz, Dexter
Romany Malco, Weeds

Showtime Valentine’s game
February 11, 2008 by Jillian Cohan
Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us (as if you couldn’t tell from the avalanche of red products in store displays and plastered on the covers of magazines).
In honor of V-Day, I thought we could play matchmaker with Showtime’s hottie actors and actresses. Here’s the rule: You get to pick two stars from different shows, pair ‘em up and predict what would happen if they fell in love.
I’ll go first:
Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors) + Mary-Kate Olsen (Weeds) = Beautiful bohemian tragedy. Both stars have spent some time in recovery for various reasons. Both are talented, tortured paparazzi magnets. Both tend to end up in doomed relationships. In my book, they have all the elements needed for a tragic love story.
Your turn. Be creative — Maybe Tracey Ullman and Kevin Nealon would make a hilarious couple. Or perhaps David Duchovny should explore the XXX-Files with Annabeth Gish. And with all the gorgeous, naked people in their ensemble casts, you oughta be able to create dozens of couples from The Tudors and The L Word.
Happy Valentine’s, everyone. Post your ideas in the comments.
Showtime 2008 promo: Hot, hot, hot
January 29, 2008 by Jillian Cohan
Just so y’all know: I realize I’m basically posting a commercial here. That said, this little clip-a-roo got me so nostalgic for last season and excited for the new season of Showtime’s original shows and I just had to share it with you.
Dexter, David Duchovny and pretty pouty Jonathan — hot, hot, hot. Ira Glass in his art-school chic glasses — cool, cool, cool. Penn, Teller and Tracey Ullman skewering pop culture — fab, fab, fab.
I’m gonna stop gushing now and let you enjoy:
Californication clip
December 19, 2007 by Jillian Cohan
In honor of his best actor Golden Globe nom, Showtime posted this little gem of David Duchovny as Hank Moody on Californication.
Good luck, DD. As the brother-in-law on Chuck would say, “You’re AWESOME!”
