Any of you out there who just wrapped up the first season of Dexter on CBS and are now going through Ice Truck Killer withdrawal, I have your methadone:
Season 2 is an easy download from iTunes or Amazon, for about $25. It’s also available anytime you want on Showtime On Demand, should you decide to pony up the bucks for digital cable (I’m biased, but I’ve found that it changed my life.)

Conservative group protests Dexter on CBS, again

Deja vu, anyone? The Parents Television Council, whom you may remember from a December campaign against CBS’ plans to repurpose cable shows, just released another statement urging the network not to air Dexter, which is scheduled for broadcast on CBS starting Feb. 17.
“The biggest problem with the series is something that no amount of editing can get around: the series compels viewers to empathize with a serial killer, to root for him to prevail, to hope he doesn’t get discovered. Who is Showtime’s MVP?

While vegging out on the couch this evening, my BF, whom we’ll call Sports Dude, started talking about MVPs and what they bring to a lineup. The conversation quickly turned to who we would elect as Showtime’s MVP.
His pick: Mary-Louise Parker, or as SD calls her, “that chick from Weeds,” because he thinks it’s the seminal Showtime series right now.

Dexter gets CBS air date

Ah, the writers’ strike. CBS announced today that it will air the first season of Dexter — minus any content that might offend the network’s standards and practices officers — starting Feb. 17. Much as I applaud the network for bringing in a scripted series instead of relying on ridiculous reality TV, it’s so hard to imagine Dexter or any of the other Showtime shows we love without the strong language, regular nudity and occasional violence.
