L Word diva Mia Kirshner joins Vampire Diaries
December 29, 2009 by Jillian Cohan
The L Word’s Mia Kirshner is soon to join the ranks of the undead.
Kirshner, whose ill-fated Jenny provided much of the drama in the final season of the Showtime series, has signed on for a recurring role on The Vampire Diaries.
The actress will debut on the CW series on Jan. 21, E!’s Kristin Dos Santos reports. Kirshner was a last-minute casting addition in the role of Isobel, wife of Alaric, the hot teacher played by Matt Davis.
There’s a twist, though: E! says Isobel will appear only in flashbacks and that she may already be dead — killed at the hands …read more
Love it or hate it,The L Word finale was a hit for Showtime
March 12, 2009 by Jillian Cohan
OK, we all seem to agree that The L Word’s supposed cliffhanger ending actually fell off a cliff.
But we all kept watching.
The series finale logged 756,000 viewers. That’s the most eyeballs for a finale in The L Word’s six seasons and the third highest overall, according to Broadcasting & Cable (the only episodes to draw more viewers were The L Word’s first two installments in 2004).
We’ll have to wait and see if Ilene Chaiken’s women’s prison spinoff, The Farm, does as well when it debuts.

The L Word series draws to a (less than) satisfying conclusion
March 9, 2009 by Jillian Cohan
Ilene Chaiken, take a bow. The way The L Word wrapped last night was totally confounding and confusing, but the ladies looked as good as always.
What do you think, L Word fans? Am I wrong to have wanted an answer to what happened to Jenny (a loose balcony railing seems likely)? And to have seen Max’s pregnancy all the way to term? Should we have expected some resolution after six seasons of drama, drama, drama (and, of course, couture)? Share your thoughts in the comments.
Throughout its six seasons, the series has been lauded for its “groundbreaking” plotlines — taking on …read more

Just one to go before the big 6-0. Happy Birthday, Cybill!
February 18, 2009 by Jillian Cohan
For those of you who didn’t know, the marvelous Cybill Shepherd turns 59 today. Here’s wishing happy birthday to the spunky actress whose chemistry with Bruce Willis on Moonlighting was unmatched (sources tell us they hated each other, but who could tell on screen?).
We love her as Phyllis on The L Word, too, and in all the other chicks with moxie roles she’s played over the years (check out her IMDb list — there are A LOT).
Along those lines, here are a few choice quotes from the birthday girl:
“I had the serendipity of modeling during a temporary interlude between Twiggy …read more

In PETA campaign The L Word’s Daniela Sea speaks out against meat
January 28, 2009 by Jillian Cohan
Daniela Sea, who plays Max on The L Word, is one of the many stars lending their voices to PETA’s latest campaign. Sea’s role as a transgendered person on the series is one way she promotes tolerance and social justice. Devoting herself to causes such as animal rights is another.
A longtime vegan, Sea says in the ad “Animals are not ours to torture and dominate. If I was to eat factory farmed meat or dairy products, I’d be taking part in the torturing and killing of animals. There’s just no way.”
Sea is in good company. Other stars who’ve signed on …read more
