L Word Season 6 not-so-spoiler: Jenny gets it
December 6, 2008 by Jillian Cohan
That’s right kids, now that we can watch the first two minutes of the L Word Season 6 premiere, it’s clear that Jenny Schecter is the dead gal who we see floating in Bette’s swimming pool.
Not to worry, though. Those of you who love to hate Miss J will get to see Mia Kirshner in all her bitchtastic glory via flashbacks throughout the season.
Here’s the teaser to the premiere. After the jump you’ll find a few Jenny pics from Season 6.
And the body count rises: Showtime renews Dexter for two more seasons
October 21, 2008 by Jillian Cohan
Showtime announced today that based on the performance of Dexter’s first three seasons, the network is re-upping for two more. At Showtime Fan HQ we think that’s kinda a no-brainer, but we’re psyched nonetheless.
Here are the deets, according to the Showtime press release:
Seasons four and five will consist of 12 episodes each, with production on season four set to begin next spring in Los Angeles. In the announcement, VP Bob Greenblatt praised the cast, producers, novelist Jeff Lindsay, on whose work the series is based, and star Michael C. Hall for bringing Dexter to life with depth and grace.
“I thought at best we would attract a devoted cult audience but soon realized that, ironically, this show is so thematically rich and layered with humanity that audiences of all kinds have flocked to it,” Greenblatt said.
Indeed, the Season 3 premiere hit ratings records for Showtime, drawing more than 3 million viewers in its first week (yes, they’re counting repeat airings. But still, that ain’t too shabby). Dexter was the network’s top-rated series last year and the DVDs of Seasons 1 and 2 are among Showtime’s most successful sellers, as are its iTunes downloads.
Like we said, renewing the series is kinda a no-brainer.

Emmys early look: Showtime dramas and comedies make the short list
June 30, 2008 by Jillian Cohan
For the first time ever, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences — the folks who bring us the Emmys every year — have pre-released Top 10 lists of comedy and drama series in contention for the awards. The full nominees list will be out in a few weeks. Happily, three Showtime shows made the short list.
Weeds scored a spot on the comedy Top 10, along with HBO shows such as Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage, both of which feel pretty irrelevant these days, and network series including Ugly Betty, The Office and Family Guy (the first nom for an animated series, btw).
In the drama category, Dexter and The Tudors both scored nominations. Dexter’s an odd inclusion, notes the New York Times’ TV Decoder, because it’s sometimes designated as a comedy.
Five finalists from each category are expected to make the official list when the noms announced July 17. The Academy decided to do the pre-release because last year some of the info leaked ahead of time.

L Word final season announced
March 10, 2008 by Jillian Cohan
Season 6 of the L Word will be its last, and it will be a short season at that.
Showtime announced the series’ renewal today, saying eight episodes are on order, compared to 12-13 for previous seasons.
Why so few? Mama Chaiken said creatively all she needed were eight episodes to wrap up all the storylines, according to Hollywood Reporter. On the plus side, she also said fan ideas would play a role in the final season, as they have in the past.
As for the L Word stars, the cast is in negotiations to return for the sixth season. Once contracts are sorted out, the show should go into production in early summer and is expected to premiere in early 2009.

Tudors sweepstakes — take home a king’s ransom
March 6, 2008 by Jillian Cohan
As part of the promotion for Season 2 of The Tudors, Showtime is giving away 50 grand plus a $25,000 donation to your favorite charity, an English title (Lord or Lady of Couchpotatoland, perhaps?) and a weeklong luxury vacation at a Sheraton anywhere in the world.
The contest has other prizes too, including jewelry, period costumes (odd, huh?) and spa treatments. You can enter here every week through the end of May.
First the Dexter bobblehead … now the Dexter video game
March 4, 2008 by Jillian Cohan
Dex as a bobblehead was somewhat amusing. But Dexter as a video game could just kick ass. Mark Ecko Entertainment — the game and TV division of designer Marc Ecko’s lifestlye company — just signed on to produce the game, which may be created for Playstation 3 and XBox 360.
” ‘Dexter’ is the extremely rare TV show with enough layers of action and tension to translate perfectly into a compelling video game,” said Ecko VP Marc Fernandez.
Naturally, the game will be set in Miami and Dex will be the main character. The developers will work closely with Showtime to make sure the game stays faithful to the series. It’ll be marketed to hardcore gamers, who’ve proved avid fans of the show. “Our game designers, writers, and artists are going to give Dexter’s morally complex world the kind of interactivity that gamers will love,” Fernandez said.
No word on a release date yet.
Showtime 2008 promo: Hot, hot, hot
January 29, 2008 by Jillian Cohan
Just so y’all know: I realize I’m basically posting a commercial here. That said, this little clip-a-roo got me so nostalgic for last season and excited for the new season of Showtime’s original shows and I just had to share it with you.
Dexter, David Duchovny and pretty pouty Jonathan — hot, hot, hot. Ira Glass in his art-school chic glasses — cool, cool, cool. Penn, Teller and Tracey Ullman skewering pop culture — fab, fab, fab.
I’m gonna stop gushing now and let you enjoy:
